Two newspapers sued Perplexity in the Tokyo Dstrict Court, alleging that it copied and stored their articles without permission, ignored technical restrictions like "robots.txt", and displayed inaccurate summaries attributed to them. They sought injunctions and damages of ¥2.2 billion each, saying the conduct infringed reproduction, adaptation, and public transmission rights and damaged their credibility.
