North Macedonia held a general election on 8 May 2024.
The VMRO-DPMNE party led by Hristijan Mickoski won the election with just over 43% of the votes, beating the ruling Social Democrats led by Prime Minister Dimitar Kovacevski.
VMRO-DPMNE won 58 of the 120 seats in the unicameral parliament (Sobranie), three short of a majority.
The main political parties are Social Democratic Union of Macedonia (SDSM), Democratic Union for Integration (DUI), Alliance for Albanians (AA), Liberal Democratic Party (LDP). Opposition: VMRO-Democratic Party for Macedonian National Unity (VMRO-DPMNE), Democratic Party of Albanians (DPA), Alternativa, BESA.
The country has a population of 2 million and around 1.8 million registered voters. Voter turnout 2024 parliamentary elections 55.4%.
