Mauritania held presidential elections on 29 June 2024.
President Mohamed Ould Cheikh Ghazouani of the ruling El Insaf party secured a second five-year term with 56% of the vote.
In the 2023 parliamentary election, El Insaf won the election with 107 seats in the 176-member National Assembly. Members serve five-year terms.
Mauritania has a population of 5 million and approximately 1.8 million registered voters. Voter turnout in the 2024 presidential election was 55.4%. In the 2023 parliamentary election, voter turnout was 71.5%.
