Botswana held a general election on 30 October 2024.

The main opposition the Umbrella for Democratic Change coalition led by Duma Boko won the election after his party secured the minimum requirement of winning 31 out of 61 parliamentary seats. 

Incumbent President Mokgweetsi Masisi conceded defeat after his ruling party, the Botswana Democratic Party which had been in power for 58 years, failed to win enough seats. 

The country has a population of 2.7 million and approximately 1 million registered voters. Provisional results show voter turnout in the 2024 election was 81%.
