Bangladesh held a general election on 12 February 2026.

The Election Commission confirmed that the Bangladesh Nationalist Party alliance led by Tarique Rahman won the election with 212 seats. The main opposition alliance, led by the Jamaat-e-Islami party, won 77 seats. 

The vote took place under an interim government led by Muhammad Yunus, which has governed the country since August 2024 following the ousting of former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.

The Prime Minister serves a five-year term and is head of government.

Bangladesh has a unicameral parliament consisting of 350 seats – 300 seats are directly elected from geographical constituencies and 50 seats are reserved for women appointed by political parties with numbers in proportion to the party's vote.

Bangladesh has a population of around 177 million and 128 million registered voters. Voter turnout in the 2026 election was 59.4%.
