The bicameral Congress comprises of the upper house Senate, which has 103 members, and lower House of Representatives, which has 183 members. Members of both houses serve four-year terms and are mainly elected by proportional representation.
In the Senate, the party of President Gustavo Petro, the Historic Pact, won 25 seats, while the Democratic Centre party won 17 seats and the Colombian Liberty Party 12 seats.
In the House of Representatives, the Democratic Centre won 32 seats, followed by the Liberal Party with 31 seats and the Historic Pact with 29. The Conservative Party won 18 seats, Radical Change 13, and the Green Alliance 7.
Colombia is expected to hold presidential elections on 31 May 2026.
Colombia has a population of around 54 million and 41.3 million registered voters. In the 2026 parliamentary elections, voter turnout was 49.6%.
