El Salvador held a general election on 4 February 2024.
President Nayib Bukele of the Nuevas Ideas party won a second five-year term.
The other presidential candidates were Joel Sánchez of the Nationalist Republican Alliance (ARENA), Manuel Flores of the Farabundo Martí National Liberation Front (FMLN), Luis Parada of Nuestro Tiempo, Javier Renderos of Solidary Force, and Marina Murillo of the Salvadoran Patriotic Fraternity (FPS).
In the presidential election, a candidate need to win 50% plus 1 vote in order to win.
Voters also elected all 60 members of the unicameral Legislative Assembly, who serve three-year terms. Nuevas Ideas won 54 of the 60 seats.
The country has a population of 6.39 million and approximately 6.2 million registered voters. In the 2024 elections, voter turnout was 52.6%.
