Lithuania held presidential elections on 12 May 2024 and a second round of votes on 26 May.

Incumbent President Gitanas NausÄ—da was re-elected with 75% of the vote. He will serve a another five-year term.

Lithuania is due to hold parliamentary elections by October 2024.

Lithuania has a unicameral parliament, the Seimas, with 141 members – 71 are directly elected and 70 are elected by proportional representation. Members serve four-year terms. 

The current government comprises the Homeland Union-Lithuanian Christian Democrats (TS-LKD), the Liberal Movement (LS) and the Freedom Party (LP), which together have 74 out of 141 seats in the Seimas.

The main political parties are Homeland Union-Lithuanian Christian Democrats (TS-LKD); Liberal Movement (LS); Freedom Party (LP); Freedom and Justice Party (LT); Union of Democrats "For Lithuania" (DSVL); Lithuanian Farmers and Greens Union (LVZS); Social Democratic Party of Lithuania (LSDP); Lithuanian Regions Party (LRP); Labour Party (DP); Electoral Action of Poles in Lithuania-Christian Families Alliance (LLRA-KSS); Lithuanian Green Party (LZP).

Lithuania voted in the European Parliament elections on 9 June 2024.

Lithuania has a population of 2.7 million and approx. 2.4 million registered voters. In the 2024 presidential election, voter turnout was 59.9%. In the 2020 parliamentary elections, voter turnout was 47.8%.
