The Maldives held a general election on 21 April 2024.
President Mohamed Muizzu’s People’s National Congress won 71 out of 93 parliamentary seats in the unicameral People’s Council. Members are elected by first-past-the-post and hold five-year terms.
The main political parties are the People’s National Congress (PNC) and the Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP).
The country has a population of 518,277 and appoximately 284,663 registered voters. Voter turnout in the 2024 election was 60.4%.
