San Marino held a general election on 9 June 2024.
The country has a unicameral Great and General Council (Consiglio Grande e Generale) which is composed of 60 members elected for a five-year term. They are elected by proportional representation with a single constituency. Vote in 2 rounds if needed.
The Council appoints the two heads of state (Captains Regents) whose term of office is every six months. The current Captains Regents are Alessandro Rossi (Gruppo Misto) and Milena Gasperoni (Noi per la Repubblica), serving from 1 April 2024 to 30 September 2024.
In the 2024 election, the Christian Democratic Party of San Marino (PDCS) won 22 seats in parliament, Free (Libera) – Socialist Party (PS) won 10 seats, Future Republic (RF) 8 seats, Party of Socialists and Democrats (PSD) 8 seats, Tomorrow – Motus Liberi 5 seats, Reformist Alliance (AR) 4 seats, and R.E.T.E. Citizens’ Movement 3 seats.
San Marino has a population of 35,095 and around 38,388 registered voters. In the 2024 election, voter turnout was 50.7%.
